Democracy Nigeria Project

The Democracy Nigeria Project (DNP) respects your privacy. This notice explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it and the choices you have. We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

What we collect

When you join: your name, WhatsApp number, state, how you want to help and, if you choose, your email address.
When you contact us or nominate a champion: your name, email address, optional phone number and what you write to us.
When you donate: your name, email address, the amount and a payment reference. Card and bank details are collected by Paystack, not by us.
When you use the site: your IP address, which we keep with form submissions to prevent abuse and spam.

How we use it

To add you to your state team and send you updates, event alerts and election reminders you asked for.
To reply to your messages and review nominations.
To process donations and keep financial records.
To protect the site from fraud and automated abuse.

We rely on your consent for membership updates, and on our legitimate interest in running the organisation for everything else. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who we share it with

We never sell your data, and we never share it with any political party, candidate or campaign. We share only what is needed with the service providers that help us run DNP, such as our web host and Paystack, and with authorities where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep membership details for as long as you are a member. Messages and nominations are kept for up to two years. Donation records are kept for as long as the law requires for financial records.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it or stop us using it. To stop WhatsApp updates, reply STOP to any message from us. For anything else, contact us and choose General question. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Security

The site uses encrypted connections. Access to member data is limited to the people who need it for their work with DNP.

Changes

If we change this notice, we will update the date at the top of this page.
